You develop your LabVIEW application with the LabVIEW Real-Time Module on Windows and then download the program to your NI PXI-8196 RT controller via Ethernet. PXI-6508 96-Channel, 5 V TTL/CMOS, 2.5 mA PXI Digital I/O Module
uses four, 24‑bit programmable peripheral interfaces (PPIs) that can each be divided into three, 8‑bit ports. The PXI‑6508 can interface to peripherals or other computers, and it can operate in either a unidirectional or bidirectional mode and handshake with peripheral equipment. The PXI‑6508 is well suited for applications that require onboard pull-up resistors.
PXI-8433/4

RS-485/RS-422, Serial Interface Module
The 4-port interface utilizes 10-position phone jacks, so each of the four connectors can exist on a single back panel. When purchasing a 4-port serial interface, the user can arrange links that change over the phone jacks to either DB-9 or DB-25 male connectors with standard pin assignments. In general, the user should arrange four converter links for each 4-port serial gadget. Note that a converter link is not intended to go the full distance from a 4-port serial interface specifically to the instruments. The most popular converter cables change over the 10-pin phone jack on a 4-port gadget to a similar DB-9 male connector, which can be found on a normal PC serial port. The association from this converter to the serial gadget uses the standard links utilized with the PC serial port.

performs encoder position measurement, event counting, period measurement, pulse-width measurement, pulse generation, pulse-train generation, and frequency measurement. can directly drive external digital devices such as solid-state relays (SSRs). You can configure each port for input or output, and no external power supply is required for outputs.
Using programmable power-up states, you can configure the initial output states in software to ensure glitch-free, safe operations when connected to industrial actuators. If a computer or application fault occurs, the PXI‑6509 can use digital I/O watchdogs to switch to a configurable safe output state to ensure detection and safe recovery from fault conditions. Programmable input filters eliminate glitches/spikes and provide debouncing for digital switches/relays through a software-selectable digital filter.
